Reading a ledger row
A ledger page has two columns: a wide one for the entry, and a narrow one on the right for its standing, one sign per row.
The status column holds one of the three ledger words: ka (kept, still standing), kha (struck, done with) or na (pending, waiting). Read across: the entry, then its standing.
| Entry (Somka) | Entry (English) | Standing |
|---|---|---|
| mo | a key | ka: still at the desk |
| minu te sorin | a stranger’s book | kha: collected |
| tok | a stone | ka: still at the desk |
| nunu te o | a child’s ring | na: waiting to be claimed |
minu te sorin
stranger of book
a stranger’s book
te links a word to the thing that belongs to it, and the owner comes first: minu te sorin, a stranger’s book. Read it as stranger-of book.
