Values
Last updated
The novel asks who decides which worlds are kept. This page says what we decide about the site itself, in plain words, so you can hold us to it.
No side in real politics
This site and its community take no position on any real organisation, party, government or campaign.
Posts and submissions about real political groups are removed from our spaces, with a plain reason. That is not a judgement on anyone’s views: it keeps the argument in the story, where everyone can take part.
The author’s own political writing stays on his personal channels. It is never posted here.
Earned, never bought
Rank, titles, votes and any say in the story come only from reading, solving, making and helping.
Money buys objects, stories and support. It never buys rank, hints, luck, votes or influence over canon.
The core of the site is free and will stay free: your sealed name, the Seal Log, the puzzles and their hints. The Prologue, the book’s opening, stays here to read.
Tricks we will never use
If you ever see one of these on this site, it is a mistake, and we will fix it. Tell us at hello@dreamscapecode.com.
- Streaks that break or reset. The only counts here are running totals that never go down.
- Loot boxes, mystery packs, random paid drops or paid rerolls.
- Paid hints, paying to progress, or paying for rank, votes or influence. Hints are free, and arrive on a stated schedule.
- Fake scarcity, countdown timers or “limited time” claims that are not true. If something is genuinely limited, we say so, with the number, before you buy.
- Hidden costs, prices that grow at checkout, or subscriptions that are harder to leave than to join.
- Guilt-tripping buttons (“No thanks, I don’t care”), boxes ticked for you, or real terms hidden in jokes from the story.
- Fake, paid-for or conditional reviews, or adverts that do not say they are adverts.
- Characters asking you for money. Anyone from the site messaging you first.
- Anything that unlocks, rewards you or only happens between 10pm and 7am in your time zone. The nightly line arrives at 7pm your time, and it waits for you.
- Guilt about being away, such as “a world is lost if you don’t log in”, or leaderboards that shame anyone.
- Encouraging secrecy, or cutting you off from the people in your life.
- Using your quiz or journal answers to target you, or asking for your address book.
- Paying to enter anything decided by chance, referral commissions, betting on the plot, NFTs, tokens or crypto.
- Marketing aimed at under-18s.
- Selling anything on World Mental Health Day (10 October), from 24 to 26 December, or on Nor’easter Night.
- Real-world dares for the sake of “realness”: outdoor drops, water, railways, trespass, searches at night, fly-posting or chalking.
- Endless feeds on the story pages.
- Treating weight loss, skipped meals, pulse or sleep numbers as devotion.
Never “#Dreamers”
We never use the hashtag #Dreamers, and we ask fans not to. In the United States it names young undocumented immigrants who were brought to the country as children. Their name is not ours to borrow.
People who love the novel are Dreamwalkers.
Nobody is a peripheral concern
The site is built to work for everyone, including people using screen readers, keyboards, older phones and slow connections. See Accessibility.
Privacy is part of the story’s argument, so we keep as little about you as we can. See Privacy.
If we get it wrong
Tell us at hello@dreamscapecode.com. Changes to these values are dated on this page, and nothing changes silently.
