Marks of the page
A page of Sotak has its own punctuation, and a mark for numbers that is not a stroke at all.
| Mark | Form | Use |
|---|---|---|
| the lock | a small keyhole on the baseline | Full stop |
| the breath | a short rising hairline at mid-height | A pause, or a comma |
| the strike | one hard line through | Voids or negates; read as kha after it |
| the notch | a plain upright cut with no curl | Carries numbers (Row 5) |
| the sleeping form | a sign laid on its side | A word in the dream mood: if, or a wish (Row 6) |
Writing runs left to right and top to bottom. The signs hang from a ruled line, like keys on a board: every stroke starts on the rule or just under it. Inside a word the signs sit close; between words, leave half a sign.
